What we do  /  Strategic Communications

Strategic Communications

The story, the audiences and the visibility a company needs at the moments that define it.

We help founders and leadership teams decide what to say, who needs to hear it and in what order, then put it in front of the investors, customers, partners and press who shape what comes next.

When clients call us

You’re raising

Investor narrative and pitch language, announcement strategy and timing, founder talking points and media prep, and the note to your team, customers and existing investors.

You’re launching

A launch story that holds up to scrutiny, the audiences and outlets that matter most, press materials and a spokesperson ready for the hard questions.

You’re entering a new market

Positioning that translates to new buyers, partners and regulators, and the introductions and coverage that make a new name credible quickly.

Your story has outgrown you

A sharper market position when the company has moved faster than the way it describes itself.

What we do

  • Positioning and messaging architecture
  • Media strategy, relations and interview preparation
  • Executive visibility: bylines, speaking and LinkedIn
  • Announcement planning for raises, launches and milestones
  • Press materials, briefing books and spokesperson training
  • Content for websites, investor materials and sales teams

Selected work

A seed round with the Journal behind it

A New York data privacy startup needed credibility before its product reached the market. It went into its seed round with a Wall Street Journal feature and trade coverage behind it, and closed $3.4 million.

Scaling a category leader

A maker of engineered metal powders for 3D printing hired us through its venture investor to announce a funding round. We became its full marketing communications team, earning coverage in five top industry publications, growing its LinkedIn following from 200 to 3,500 in a year, and producing launch materials that supported its Series B.

How we work

You work directly with the founding partners, Frank De Maria and Elie Jacobs, supported by senior advisors where a matter calls for specialist expertise.

Engagements run as a 50-Day Sprint, a defined project, retained counsel or standing advisory, depending on what the moment needs.

Common questions

When should a company bring in strategic communications support?

Ideally a few months before a moment where perception affects value: a raise, a launch, a deal or entry into a new market. That leaves time to agree the story, prepare spokespeople and build relationships before anything is announced.

How is Purposeful Advisors different from a PR agency?

Clients work directly with the founding partners, not a junior account team. We measure the work against the company’s goals, such as closing a round or winning a partner, rather than the volume of coverage.

Do you work with early-stage companies?

Yes. We work with founders preparing a first institutional round as well as established and public companies. The approach scales to the moment and the budget.

How does an engagement usually start?

Many clients start with our 50-Day Sprint, which settles positioning, messaging and the materials to back it up. Others move straight to a defined project or retained counsel.
